When someone collects stuff they do it for many reasons. When it gets out of hand it turns into hoarding or the maintenance of a hoard if the accumulation has stopped. Rarely does the accumlation stop.

Many people get attached emotionally to the collection or some of the idividual items which makes it that much harder to declutter the mess. That was me yep. Also emotions of how the stuff was acquired can contribute. For me it has been a lot of emotional attachment combined with a lifetime of collecting the stuff. Sometimes with the intent of "sometime selling it because it is worth a lot". The problem is you never give up on the stuff and keep it anyway. You procrastinate on finding a selling venue, or place too high a value on it.

I saw the collections more as "libraries" for whatever media they were. I still see my music collection and videos in that way a library. There is so much I could never listen to, watch or read each and every item in the collection, thus the library label. You have a bunch of stuff you like and would like to experience sometime, even if you never end up experienceing most of it. It is there for you whenever you want. Many people have switched to streaming services and the cloud to store stuff, but the streaming services periodically get rid of stuff or make upgrades to the latest version of something so you can't access the original or in some cases what you want at all becuase they dumped it.

During my decluttering, which I am still in process, I don't think I will ever be totally clutter free, one of the emotional attachment things I cut loose was 90% of my comicbook collection. It went along with a large dinning room table that was much too large for my apartment, 4 chairs, lots of electronic equipment, and a small entertainment center on wheels, boxes and boxes of VHS tapes mostly home recorded off the air tapes, but some pre-recorded commerical product tapes, boxes of magazines, a pole lamp that was shorting out a couple of verticle cubbie organizers storage units, a very nice footlocker the size of a small steamer trunk. No room for the stuff. I used one of those junk hauling companies that will attempt to donate or recycle stuff before they go to the dump. So I feel a little relief about that. I hated having to "dump" a lot of stuff, and still did a lot of dumping before the junk hauling company came. I was in a panic mode to prep for an inspection that if I had failed they could have kicked me to the curb (due to the clutter). I wasn't sure if I could get the "junk" hauled away before the inspection, but I was able to. My cluttering was never any nasty moldy food, or animal feces (or human), just lots of clutter in boxes with very little organization at all. There were "areas" of stuff where I knew mostly what was there but not much specifically.

My attitude of "stuff" in the last couple of years has been "It is 'just' stuff". No reason to be attached to it. It doesn't make it much easier though there is still the emoitional attachment thing, and the logic games of why to keep stuff. You can't take it with you. Mortality is also a factor for all of this. I'm single no kids. The youngest of 4 siblings (1 deceased) . I do have 2 nephews now in their 30s, one by blood the other by marriage. Neither one seems to be interested in the stuff I have been into, so they would probably just trash the stuff anyway. Right now though I don't have a will so living in Maryland all my stuff would be in the hands of the state and they usually dump stuff anyway.

CaptKirk42http://www.blogger.com/profile/16039278539984069944noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22713106.post-56286275226568292952024-02-20T05:46:00.076-05:002024-02-20T10:07:11.610-05:00Happy Blogivversay To ME!

HAPPY BLOGIVERSARY!

Today is the 18th Blogiversary for this here blog "Kirk's Knook".I don't remember what my first few goals for this blog were, but I'm sure I steered away from those early on, or abandoned them for being too lofty.

Now a days my only goal is to post at least one post per month. I had somethings to do from around Thanksgiving until forever. It didn't leave me with time to work on my blogs. Basically my personal montly quota of 1 post per month suffered a huge set back. In the past I have thought about hanging things up completely. I don't think I'll do that, but my not so frequent blogging will continue to be not so frequent. It might have long periods of non-activity from now on. Blogging definitely doesn't mean as much to me as it once did and hasn't for many months maybe even a few years. As with many other facits of life things that meant a whole heck of a lot to me just a few years or even in some cases a few months ago, now I can shrug my shoulders at and say "Ehh Whatever".

EEK soon it will be time for my yearly "year in review" and such.
CaptKirk42http://www.blogger.com/profile/16039278539984069944noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22713106.post-58265017175721545152023-11-30T12:00:00.003-05:002023-12-21T09:54:58.653-05:00November Update.

November, November, November let me count the ways. UM NO. So looking back on this month from the end of the month point of view was there anything majorly significant this month? No, not in the grand scheme of things whatever that is. I did sell a DVD - Season 5 of the Television Show "Castle" on Ebay. Unfortunately I lost out on shipping the package was over 1 pound. I charged $5.00 shipping and real shipping was $8.55. It was my 3rd sold item on Ebay for this year. Right now there are 68 items listed. "And there was Much Rejoicing"

Not sure if I'll add anything to this or not. The draft posts that I do have in the draft queue for this blog still require more effort than I am willing to do, or rather take more time to complete than I usually allow myself. A good portion of them are reviews that I still need to actually start the writing of the review. Several of them will require re-watching, or rereading, or re-listening to whatever it was I wanted to review. Sometimes I wonder why I bother even writing a rant about my inaction. Well in some ways it gives me something that I can post about. So there is that.

Meanwhile at work our office is in the process of vacating one of the floors of the building we are in. We are currently on 3 floors, 2 of which we occupy the entire floor and 1 (the one I am on) our offices are maybe 1/4 of the floor. One of the full floors we are exiting from with most of the people moved. We have til the end of the year to exit completely when the lease runs. After that we will be only on 2 floors one the full floor and the other one at about the 1/4.
CaptKirk42http://www.blogger.com/profile/16039278539984069944noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22713106.post-53746379114231480742023-09-30T19:10:00.008-04:002023-10-02T11:18:19.088-04:00Name Game: Didn't Even Try

I've made many of these posts on variations of my name and the misspellings I have seen. We all have had our name misspelled at the very least once. If you haven't then you are extremely lucky. Anyway a month or so ago (almost 2) on one of my visits to Chick-Fil-A and their standard asking you for your name for your order. I thought things were sort of normal. The cashier asked my name I gave it to him and he even asked to spell it. Then I saw what was on the receipt and it was not my name spelled correctly. It was a note to the order preps to give the cashier the order for him to give it to me.

Chick-Fil-A receipt

That is right instead of my name which I spelled out for him "K-I-R-K" he put in "G-I-V-E-2-J-E-F-R-Y". One of Billy Joel's popular chart toppers "We Didn't Start the Fire" was released in 1989. The song is just a well-organized and mostly chronological list of newsworthy events and pop culture from Joel's first 40 years of life 1949-1989 set to a catchy rhythm. He was 40 when he wrote it. The song became a popular teaching tool for history classes. Well now in 2023 some 34 years later an updated cover version has been recorded by the band Fall Out Boy. I heard part of the new version on the radio and thought it was OK. Not great but I can accept it a bit. I have since watched a YouTube video of it. The update picks up from 1989 to 2023, however the events listed are just randomly placed not in chronological order. The band has made a statement that they intentionally listed things out of order because of the way the world is currently in a state of chaos. It also concentrates more on pop culture than just historic events.

Unlike some recent amateur "updates" this official recording does not have a liberal bias against a certain Ex-President that the amateur versions have. Those seem to be intentionally biased and tend to be recorded by Never Trump Activists for the sole reason of spewing their hate for Trump. There was one version that just covers events from 2020. The only reference to Trump that I could hear/see in the Fall Out Boy cover is the lyric "Trump gets impeached twice". Many of their pop culture references you seem to have to be of a certain age to get or be a part of the later video game generations.

I really like Joel's original version and when it plays on the radio, I will listen to it all the way through even if I found it in the last few seconds of the song. The update slash cover I am unsure about. I think it is cool that there is finally a semi-decent update, even if it is a few years too early for a full 40 year chunk of history. Due to its randomness and the fact that I am not a huge Fall Out Boy fan I wouldn't say I fully like it. I like it some, but I would not go out of my way to listen to it over and over. I might listen to it if I hear it start and then I might not.

Here is a YouTube video of The Fall Out Boy version with some images of what they are singing. There doesn't seem to be an official video at this time if there will ever be one.
CaptKirk42http://www.blogger.com/profile/16039278539984069944noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22713106.post-35217833052144914832023-07-31T12:00:00.001-04:002023-07-31T12:00:00.162-04:00Name Game: Kirok In A Hard Place
OK so this latest "is this the last one?" misspelling of my name isn't "Kirok" from The Star Trek Original Series (TOS) episode "The Paradise Syndrome", but it is sort of close.

This time the Chick-Fil-A cashier, where most of these fun misspellings happen, forget that stuffy room in Philadelphia with that Mr. Hamilton guy, was as I said similar. I have plenty of long term ideas for somethings, but many of those take lots of planning or at least a bit more planning that I am willing to do in a short period of time. I don't want to rush some of those ideas. A few have been sitting for a long time. I have 11 drafts for posts for this blog, I'm not sure about how many drafts I have for my trading card blog but it is probably quite a few more. Some of the abandoned drafts may stay abandoned. There have been a few times when I had a lingering abandoned draft for so long I lost total interest in it or it seemed to be so far outdated that I just deleted them.

I suppose that some of my problem with post subjects comes down to things that I feel comfortable with presenting to the entire world. Sort of what you decide to post on social media. I try to keep some things off it. I guess I should evaluate the things that I like or enjoy doing or reevaluate them.

Well I guess one thing I can talk about is a book that I am currently reading. I have stumbled with it a little probably due to the format and quite frankly some of the writing style, prose I think it is called, The Book is titled "Chronicles From The Future - The Amazing Story of Paul Amadeus Dienach (Based on his Diary Pages)" Edited by Achilleas Sirigos. The basic gist of the book is it is the "diary" of a man (a Swiss-Austrian teacher) from the 1920s in failing health slips into a year long coma and when he wakes up recalls that he had "lived" in the body of a man in the year 3906 while in his coma. Knowing that he doesn't have much more time to live he records his memories of "the future" in a diary, written in German, and then gives his diary to his favorite student George Papachatzis who translates it into Greek. It claims to be a true story about time travel. The "student" was a real person, however the existence of the "author" is a bit sketchy. The only references to the "author" are linked in someway to this book.

At any rate the book is somewhat interesting, but it has taken me a bit of an effort to plow through. At times the "future" reminds me of something like "A Brave New World" or "Logan's Run" with the culture of society and an emphasis on youth. In the future presented, which is a few hundred to maybe a thousand years post-nuclear war money and wealth is no longer a priority, Young adults after their formal schooling spend roughly 2 years working like crazy and then retire to appreciate the finer things in life. A few people work longer than the standard 2 years but the majority don't. Currently I am 32% through the book.

Some have criticized the book because of some more modern references to later technology. The reasoning for the modern references is in part due to the publishing "history". It appears that the first Greek translation wasn't published until after WWII and was only shared with the free masons or some similar group who decided to hide the book. Its first major publishing was the 1970s. It has only in more recent years been translated into English. So any claims of the events being factual are very suspect. I think most of it is to just give more mystery to the overall story.

CaptKirk42http://www.blogger.com/profile/16039278539984069944noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22713106.post-86730495020433461112023-04-30T12:00:00.015-04:002023-04-30T12:00:00.141-04:00Mondegreen Fun - Misheard Lyrics A Rush Job
It is time for another round of Misheard Lyrics or as it is technically known as "Mondegreen". Sometimes they can be earworms, sometimes not. But usually they will stick with you until you learn the real lyrics, if you do.

So for this episode I present a song from the rock group Rush. From their 1980 Album "Permanent Waves".

The song I misheard the lyrics to is "Freewill".

The words are from the chorus, this line "I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose freewill".

What I heard was "I will choose a bathysphere, I will choose freewill". I ordered a DVD I wanted from a seller that is in Canada. I usually try to just order from USA but will order from Canada from time to time. It is not that I am Anti buying from Canada, I just prefer to order from the US because tracking is more accurate and if there is a problem with the item and I have to return it I don't have to go through the whole shipping to another country thing. Anyway I ordered a DVD and I could have sworn it was from a US seller, but now that I think about it, it was more a case of I wanted the item so bad I didn't really care where it came from. Also I had the item on my watch list for quite sometime, so I probably just assumed it was located in the US. OH Well no biggy.

Not a goof but another Ebay oddity for me was I ordered some vinyl 45s singles. One seller I bought 4 singles from and another seller I had purchased only one. In an odd bit of irony the lot of 4 singles was shipped in a polybag bubble mailer protected by cardboard, and the lonely single was shipped in a 9" x 9" x 6" box. Packed with bubble on top and the single at the bottom of the box. I had expected things to be the other way round.

Quick misspelling Name Game. A year or two ago I once got a receipt with the name "Cork" well now I can add a variant spelling with a "K" twice. Now there are two recent trips to Chick-Fil-A where my name was misspelled as "Kork". I was bad for a while in February and early March by going there about once a week for 3 or 4 weeks on Friday evenings or on Saturdays around lunchtime.

CaptKirk42http://www.blogger.com/profile/16039278539984069944noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22713106.post-88964800304712208852023-02-28T12:00:00.008-05:002023-02-28T12:00:00.214-05:00An Update? At Chick-Fil-A where they use your name for the order ID, and the source for many of my misspellings. I got a "Kurrk" with TWO "R"s. Usually I just get it with one "R". Good thing it wasn't "Talk Like A Pirate Day" or it would have been at least 4 "R"s.

In the ever popular "Who Really Cares?" category the latest plastic bottle top from a "Nantucket Nectars" Island Orange juice the underside of the cap was "When looking for a place to live, or anything else on Nantucket, the bulletin board at the Hub might be your best bet." Oh the previous cap I had gotten (I think from a Peach Orange bottle) was "The winning pumpkin at Nantucket 2002 Island Fair pumpkin contest was approximately 660 lbs."

CaptKirk42http://www.blogger.com/profile/16039278539984069944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22713106.post-81732659953731405822023-01-31T12:00:00.001-05:002023-01-31T12:00:00.205-05:00CD Update: Discogs Order From Japan?

OK so in my last post of 2022 I mentioned that I was waiting for a CD I had ordered through discogs from a seller in Japan. Well the CD arrived on 03 Jan 2023. I placed the order on 25 Nov 2022 and the seller marked the CD as being shipped on 27 Nov 2022. In my previous post I mentioned that I got it for a good price it was $20 for the CD and $10 shipping and tax. A total of only $30. Often when I saw the CD listed the price of the CD itself was at least $30 and shipping was often at least $30.

So to end the curiosity the CD in question was "Here We Go Again" (2004) by the band SR-71. I mainly got it for track number four "1985" a song that was covered by the band Bowling For Soup the same year 2004 and they turned the song into a big hit. The original version is a bit cruder in sound and overall quality in my opinion. Also the cover adjusts and smooths out some of the lyrics. A few weeks back I discovered another cover of "1985" by a group called First To Eleven which is pretty good. The first few seconds to the first minute I didn't like it but it grew on me.

SR-71 Here We Go Again (2004)

Image from discogs.com

Anyway part of the story with this disc is when it did arrive 5 weeks and some odd days after the initial order I noticed the package came from Utah. The mailing label was printed 25 Dec 2022 HUH? The company I ordered it from is in Japan. Apparently the company has a shipping center in Utah so they can send orders to the US (with AG after the company name). I don't really mind it because apparently the Japanese pressing of this CD is the only one thus the "rarity" of the release. Yes my copy has the OBI strip with it. That was one of the reasons I got this particular copy, some of the other copies don't have the OBI strip. A few years ago I didn't even know what an OBI strip was. It is the strip of paper on the side with all the Japanese writing that all Japanese album pressings have. They also include a booklet that has all Japanese writing. For some CD releases it is more that they include a booklet written in English. It is not a necessity for Japanese pressings for me but it makes them more fun.

On a different note: I had an odd Ebay experience. For one of my purchases in which the seller didn't give a tracking number, about a week after it was marked as shipped I get a message from the seller that the item was returned with address "no such number". That is very odd since Ebay has my proper address as well as Paypal (which I paid for it through). So I replay "that is odd" and send my mailing address in all caps so that any "i" s or "L" s or other similar letters can be identified and I spelled out Maryland so that the state abbreviation of "MD" is not mistaken for an "MO" (Missouri). 3 or 4 days later I got another message that the package was returned again and the seller asked if I had another address. I restate my bewilderment and say "unfortunately that is my only address". I don't want to go through the problems one could get by sending to my work address which is in SE DC on a letter street which could be misdirected to SW or NW or NE DC. So I said I guess you will have to refund me since it is "undeliverable". Poor seller must be handwriting everything and has bad penmanship? I would love to see a picture of the bad address to see how it was messed up. Latest is the seller is attempting to send for the charmed third time. I hope it gets here. And it arrived. The item for those curious was a back issue of a Sports Illustrated Suimsuit issue to replace a water damaged copy I had. The package had one of the previous labels that had been marked with the "NSN" No Such Number with return to sender sticker under the good mailing label. Turns out that they had replaced a 3 in my street address with an 8 everything else was right except my name on the original label was "Kris" and my last name of course was misspelled with the more common "son" ending. Another interesting thing, the seller according to the listing is in Illinois, the original label was sent from Michigan and the final label was from Texas. So the seller either has a couple of locations or they sent from a drop shipper.

Tues 24 January got a message that I sold an Ebay item. 2 promo buttons for the movie "Passion of The Christ" for $2.99 plus $4 shipping. Looks like one of those I'll loose a buck or two transactions. Just glad they sold to someone who wants them. My Ebay store is now down to 70 items. I am working on some draft listings of a few books.

CaptKirk42http://www.blogger.com/profile/16039278539984069944noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22713106.post-81852584101852464882023-01-01T12:00:00.066-05:002023-01-01T12:00:00.209-05:00State O' The Blog: 2022 Recap

STATE O' THE BLOG

GOODBYE 2022 HELLO 2023

2022 was in some ways a challenging year on the family side very emotional. Other than that it was mostly unremarkable.

Soon I will make my annual "State of the Blog" post to publish sometime early January. Blog wise 2022 was pretty much a typical bare bones minimum posts year.
It is the end of 2022. Hey on Christmas day I had an Ebay sale. A lot of 20 Topps 1978 Jaws 2 trading cards for $4.99 + $4.00 shipping. Headed to Florida. I think that makes 4 maybe 5 sales this year. The number of items in Ebay store is now at 71. So there is that to yack about, which I just did.

What the heck else?

Oh I have a CD on order from Discogs. It is my 4th purchase from the site in the last 2 years. Without disclosing the album I will say it is a somewhat hard to find title. I don't know why it doesn't seem like it would be that obscure of a title but apparently it is. I have had this CD on my wishlist over there for sometime now and every once in a while I would get a notice that a copy was available from a seller in Japan, but the shipping was outrageous (at least twice the cost of the CD often much more) and the sale price before shipping was also high. Granted often times they were brand new and sealed copies, but even used copies of Very Good or lesser condition were super expensive. Every time a copy would show up it was very expensive and only available from Japan. Also it was always the same 2 or 3 sellers, sometimes they would have 3 or 4 copies for sale. I kept refusing to give in, until near the end of November. I decided to bite the bullet and order it from a seller in Japan. I'm not thrilled about the idea since it is coming from the Orient which is the most problematic area for ordering stuff from, but that is mostly China that is awful. The overall price is good and cheaper than the previous copies and other copies that are sometimes twice the price I am paying, even cheaper than one of my previous purchases for a vinyl album that is even rarer and an Original Master Recording that was worth the price I paid for it and much cheaper than OMRs of that album usually go for. So this CD has been shipped and is on its way. It has been almost 5 weeks since I placed the order, and the expected ship time is 4 to 6 weeks. So I have another week before I expect the disc to show up. In the meantime another copy for the same price I paid total is available here in the US. UGH it figures when it is finally available in the US I am already waiting for a copy from Japan, Oh and the condition of this CD is marked as being VG+.

CaptKirk42http://www.blogger.com/profile/16039278539984069944noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22713106.post-74240412411920230172022-11-30T12:00:00.079-05:002022-11-30T12:00:00.188-05:00Twitter Talk

WARNING: This post talks about the current status of Twitter, Elon Musk and Donald Trump. Readers may disagree with some statements I make or my general right of center conservative view point.

It seems that many people are all a twitter about Twitter and its new owner Elon Musk. He is all bent on trying to make Twitter a free haven for free speech. Reinvent it by steering it away from its old far left leaning Liberal ways. Musk reinstated Donald Trump's account and some others that he felt were wrongly banned, making many people angry. Elon is daily posting mean and taunting Tweets. Honestly it is more annoying than mean. Many people are afraid of more angry Tweets from Trump. Trump has disappointed them by not returning, yet. When he was expelled from Twitter he was so angry at them for wrongly evicting him from the platform, he said he wouldn't come back if they reinstated him. So far he has kept away. He has Truth Social now which is supposedly where he rants and raves now shouting mean Truths? Personally I have not ventured out to Truth Social. I barely followed Twitter, However recently I have checked it for the reactions all this has gotten. Lots of people complaining about lots of tweets that upset and anger them, simply because they disagree with them.

Many say that these changes, Musk has made, are making Twitter more evil and violent. Several liberal celebrities have made their goodbyes to Twitter and still others threaten they too will leave. Of course some of those folks said they would move out of the United States if Trump were to be elected President, well he was and they didn't.

I usually try to stay in neutral territory politically and for the most part do, but much of this left winged craziness leans me farther to the right. I have noticed in recent years that it seems the only things Democrats have been talking about (when they weren't trying to impeach or convict Trump on anything that would stick) are all the mean and evil things those damn conservative Republicans are "planning" to do and the mean things they say. They also chant daily to convict Trump for some crime or another. Isn't it interesting how both parties keep warning their followers about the evils that the other party is "planning on doing" and what we need to do to save democracy from them?

CaptKirk42http://www.blogger.com/profile/16039278539984069944noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22713106.post-9062113329902535722022-10-31T12:00:00.056-04:002022-10-31T12:00:00.452-04:00Magic Ebay Sale
For those who are not interested in hearing about my Ebay exploits you can skip this post all together.

Another month, or rather another 2 months and another Ebay sale. Two months later on the same day of the month I made a sale on Ebay Yay! This time it was a lot of two Magic: The Gathering collectible card game cards. A Summon Mesa Pegasus and A Summon Pearled Unicorn both cards Unplayed and in excellent condition that I had gotten from the card collection of a friend's son. The pair sold for 5 bucks ($4.99) and shipped for an additional 5 bucks ($4.95 actual shipping) minus Ebay fees I brought in $8.49 minus the shipping I made $3.54. Not bad. My Ebay store now has 72 items in it.CaptKirk42http://www.blogger.com/profile/16039278539984069944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22713106.post-70406329140192416492022-09-30T12:00:00.093-04:002022-09-30T12:00:00.222-04:00Subject Unknown and some Reflections?

So yeah I don't know what this post is going to be yet. It is that time of month again. I don't have any Ebay updates, I don't have any reviews ready yet. I haven't been reading much. In fact I haven't been doing much of anything exciting. Just going through the same old boring routine. Oh sure I read some interesting things on my Facebook feed which is about the extent of my social media. I also checked out pictures and posts on Instagram but that is just mindless internet surfing. I guess the most exciting stuff this month has been some of the odd YoutTube videos and the ancient alien conspiracy videos rabbit hole.

My lack of excitement lately had me briefly thinking about blogging in general and if it is time to hang it up or not. I go through this from time to time. The perfectionist in me refuses to allow me to NOT Blog my minimal 1 post per month. I can't stand seeing those gaps in my posting archives calendar. It has been I don't know how many months or years since I had one of those no posting gaps. I don't intend to start that, and don't want it to become my go-to habit.

Then that leads me to think about some of the things I think or do that I never mention here, either because they are way to private or are family related and I don't want to have too much of my dirty laundry spread over the Cyberverse that isn't already there. Of course there already is a ton of it out there. As soon as you log onto the internet for the very first time personal data gets sent to thousands of data storage lockers.

A good thing is several of my go-to television shows have started their new fall seasons and the reboot continuation of "Quantum Leap" started. I am hooked just as I was with the original. Season 2 of CSI: Las Vegas might take a nosedive as Grissim & Sarah maybe leaving again. OH well whatever.
CaptKirk42http://www.blogger.com/profile/16039278539984069944noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22713106.post-64029329290898394832022-08-30T12:00:00.002-04:002022-08-30T12:46:37.304-04:00Update: Added To Ebay

On the weekend of 06 Aug I did some listing for my Ebay. I added some comic book super heroes trading cards at fixed prices, and a bunch of Magic: The Gathering cards auctions, singles and 2 card lots (plus one 4 card lot) with 99¢ opening bids. My number of items before my listing spree were at 36 I added 13 over the weekend bringing my total listed items to 49. Then I scheduled auctions (which adds a 10¢ fee) 5 per day to start at Midnight Monday morning until Midnight Friday morning. My item total is now 75. The auctions I have recycled for a second run and then I will change them to fixed price listings at slightly higher prices. I don't have any exceptionally rare ones so my prices will be higher than what they are actually worth. Heck the 99¢ opening bids are more than what most of them are worth. Definitely long term suckers.

The number of items listed doesn't really matter but the ore that is listed the better your chances of actually selling something. Thinking about it doesn't move things.

I don't know if I've said it here or not, but at times I think listing stuff at Ebay is fun. What isn't fun is when you have to make some sort of complicated correction or addition that Ebay requires that doesn't even relate to what is being sold or is some unneeded minute detail.

I did do a new "Up On Ebay" video for my YouTube, <strike>but haven't uploaded it yet.</strike>I don't have many followers there because I rarely do videos so it won't get much traffic. UPDATE: I uploaded Episode 3 of Up On Ebay! after I had already scheduled this update post to be published. So I did a little editing on this post.

WoooWhooo! I sold one of the auctions on the second round. A1997 Topps Basketball Kevin Garnett Graded RC card #148 graded by FGS Gem Mint 10 at the opening 99¢ bid plus $5.00 shipping and some sales tax. My store now has 74 items.

I also sold a book Roger Zelazny "Trumps of Doom" for $8.99 plus $5.00 shipping actual shipping was $5.50 total income to bank account after Ebay fees and tax was $10 and some change. Now have 73 items in store.
CaptKirk42http://www.blogger.com/profile/16039278539984069944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22713106.post-34121420737307472932022-07-26T12:00:00.001-04:002022-07-26T12:00:00.201-04:00Name Game: Kent Clark Kent
It happened again. I had to listen for this vastly different name to be called to pickup my order. Usually with the other names they are similar enough to mine that I can sort of tune out the difference in pronunciation. I could sort of do that with this too, but I always have to check to see what the ticket spells out and listen for that name. It is tempting sometime to give a wildly fictitious name. The problem though it can't be too crazy because then the person who has to call out the names wouldn't be able to pronounce it correctly. I would also have to remember whatever name I gave. I have toyed with giving "Captain Kirk" as my name, which isn't too far off from the truth. I would just have to worry about getting caught impersonating an officer or accused of stolen valor.
CaptKirk42http://www.blogger.com/profile/16039278539984069944noreply@blogger.com2
