Another RED year yippie.

So yeah very little blogging this past year just the bare bones. I think this is the last year that I will do the average totals. I might do a "State O' The Blog" at the end of 2026 but I don't think I'll do the average posts totals as that ties in with the keeping up with my quota counting.

State O' The Blog: 2024 Recap

STATE O' THE BLOG
2024 Edition

2024 was a year of very low blog activity which the numbers reflect and at the bottom I will mention the major causes.

Here are the monthlies from 2024:

January: 2
February: 2
March: 0
April: 0
May: 1
June: 0
July: 0
August: 0
September: 0
October: 2
November: 0
December: 1

TOTAL: 8
Monthly Average: 0.67

Now lets look at how the 2024 blogging matches up with past years:

2006 - 32
2007 - 43
2008 - 36
2009 - 34
2010 - 18
2011 - 20
2012 - 38
2013 - 93
2014 - 57
2015 - 24
2016 - 29
2017 - 16
2018 - 18
2019 - 12
2020 - 17
2021 - 33
2022 - 14
2023 - 14
2024 - 8
Yearly Average: 29.26

Another RED year yippie.

This year had some lows. The kind of lows I don't like to talk about when they are happening and I don't want those "Sorry to hear that" pity replies from everybody while I'm experiencing them. Stuff happens and you roll with it. Some stuff you accept other stuff you try to fight but in the end stuff happens.

Late March I had some excruciating back pain, so much that I went to the hospital to get my back checked out. I do have Scoliosis (curvature of the spine). I think it was being irritated by adjusting to a months old toe wound on my right big toe that thanks to my diabetes was not healing. The toe wound was infected down to the bone and the first tendon of the big toe. So bye bye right big toe. Hospital stay was 2 weeks then I went on to rehab for what would be a total of 6 months at two separate facilities, a regular retirement home and then an assisted living center before getting to go home. It is at a time like that where being single without a live-in partner to be a health care provider sucks. Family is either too far away or in the case of family that was close by they were in the process of getting ready for a move, which oddly wouldn't get done until closer to end of this year.

The other bad setback for this year was early December I got into a car accident, fortunately I wasn't injured but my car was totaled. I am in process of getting a newused car estimated arrival 02 January. When I had gotten out of rehab I had to have my car in the shop because it hadn't been running for 6 months, the battery was drained and some rats had gotten into some of the engine wiring. So yeah didn't have much time with the car this year.

As for my Ebay I only sold 1 item early Dec a sports card. I thought I had sold a couple of other things, but those were sold near the end of last year. Meanwhile over at COMC (Check Out My Cards) I had a record number of yearly sales there. I will put the details for those on my card blog sometime soon hopefully.

Happy New Year: Hello 2025 Goodbye 2024

GOODBYE 2024 HELLO 2025

2024 was a so-so year, there were a few bad things that I will mention in my State of The Blog post in January. Had record year for trading card sales over at COMC most sales in one year for me there. Also for 2025 I'm getting a newused car.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy Blogivversay To ME!

HAPPY BLOGIVERSARY!

Today is the 18th Blogiversary for this here blog "Kirk's Knook".I don't remember what my first few goals for this blog were, but I'm sure I steered away from those early on, or abandoned them for being too lofty.

Now a days my only goal is to post at least one post per month. I have said a few times before about my yearly self appointed goals for my blogs. Sometimes I wish I was more enthusiastic about blogging and more prolific in my post writing, but it is what it is and I yam what I yam.

As is my tradition I am timing this post to be published at the same time of day that my very first post on this blog was.

As for my trading card blogs CaptKirk42's Trading Card Blog and Curly W Cards I missed posting in November for them. In years past I would have been very upset with myself for missing a month, but now I really don't care. If I stopped blogging completely I just wouldn't care any more.

Happy New Year: Welcome 2023 Goodbye 2022

GOODBYE 2022 HELLO 2023

2022 was in some ways a challenging year on the family side very emotional. Other than that it was mostly unremarkable.

Soon I will make my annual "State of the Blog" post to publish sometime early January. Blog wise 2022 was pretty much a typical bare bones minimum posts year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

State Of The Blog: 2021 Recap

STATE O' THE BLOG
2021 Edition

This year my "State O' The Blog" year in review post is a few days and about a week late. Because I really a lazy SOB. OK So for the 2021 blogging tally OH MY I  MADE THE QUOTA! Thanks to doing a huge bunch of Album Reviews that I had originally posted on Rate Your Music on a weekly basis. Yes that brings up the yearly average and makes me happier.

Here are the monthlies from 2021:

January: 2
February: 1
March: 5
April: 5
May: 6
June: 4
July: 4
August: 2
September: 1
October: 1
November: 1
December: 1

TOTAL: 33
Monthly Average: 2.75

This breaks the 6 year losing streak.

Now lets look at how the 2021 blogging matches up with past years:

2006 - 32
2007 - 43
2008 - 36
2009 - 34
2010 - 18
2011 - 20
2012 - 38
2013 - 93
2014 - 57
2015 - 24
2016 - 29
2017 - 16
2018 - 18
2019 - 12
2020 - 17
2021 - 33
Yearly Average: 43.33

What a relief.

As for my trading card blogs (CaptKirk42's Trading Card Blog and Curly W Cards) both of them I only did the bare 1 post per month minimum so they both only have 12 posts for the year 2021 just like for 2020. For those my only posting goal is to make at least the bare minimum of 1 post per month, 12 posts per year.

Happy New Year: Welcome 2022 Goodbye 2021

GOODBYE 2021 HELLO 2022

2021 was another COVID-19 Pandemic year. This has gotten beyond annoying and some of the powers that be seem to want to keep everything shut down and keeping the world in a mess. 'Nuff said about that I don't like being political.

Soon I will make my annual "State of the Blog" post to publish sometime early January. As far as my posting for 2021 went it was a bit more than just the bare minimum one post per month of most years. This was because of my catching up on my posted album reviews that I cranked out one a week to get them done. However I don't think my post quota goal was met. OH Well.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

State of The Blog: 2019 Recap

STATE O THE BLOG
2019 Edition

2019 maintains the failing Red years in my annual State of The Blog tally. Did that really surprise anyone?

Here are the monthlies from 2019:

January: 1
February: 1
March: 1
April: 1
May: 1
June: 1
July: 1
August: 1
September: 1
October: 1
November: 1
December: 1

TOTAL: 12
Monthly Average: 1

No real surprise I FAILED my yearly goal of 32 posts per year. That is now 5 years in a row. FIVE, FIVE!

Now lets look at how the 2019 blogging matches up with past years:

2006 - 32
2007 - 43
2008 - 36
2009 - 34
2010 - 18
2011 - 20
2012 - 38
2013 - 93
2014 - 57
2015 - 24
2016 - 29
2017 - 16
2018 - 18
2019 - 12
Yearly Average: 33.57

Yet again I am barely keeping up with my bare bones minimum of one post per month. My first year of blogging 2006 met and set my self-appointed blogging quota of 32 posts per year. My all-time high was in 2013 with 93 posts. This year was my all-time low and lowest possible. The yearly average is still getting worse and worse.

Happy New Year: 2019 to 2020

GOODBYE 2019 HELLO 2020

Yes it is the very end of the year post. Scheduled to post on the very last minute of the year. This year as we turn the calendar page we enter a new decade. The THIRD decade of the century. WOW where did the 21st century go? We have gone through a fifth of the century already. The last children born in the 20th century are no longer children, some are not quite legal adults but will be soon.

I will make my annual "State of the Blog" post to publish at Noon on New Year's Day. 2019 was yet again one of those bare minimum one post per month years. It looks to be the below record loser with this being only post number 12 of the year. The absolute lowest I will allow myself.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

State Of The Blog: 2018 Recap

STATE O THE BLOG
2018 Edition

2018 maintains the failing Red years in my annual State of The Blog tally.

Here are the monthlies from 2018:

January: 1
February: 1
March: 1
April: 1
May: 3
June: 2
July: 1
August: 1
September: 2
October: 1
November: 1
December: 3

TOTAL: 18
Monthly Average: 1.5

No real surprise I FAILED my yearly goal of 32 posts per year. That is three four years in a row now.
Now lets look at how the 2018 blogging matches up with past years:

2006 - 32
2007 - 43
2008 - 36
2009 - 34
2010 - 18
2011 - 20
2012 - 38
2013 - 93
2014 - 57
2015 - 24
2016 - 29
2017 - 16
2018 - 18
Yearly Average: 35.23

Yet again I am barely keeping up with my bare bones minimum of one post per month. My first year of blogging 2006 met and set my self-appointed blogging quota of 32 posts per year. My all-time high was in 2013 with 93 posts. That was in part due to some semi-regular post series FryDay Fourtoon and Myka Monday. I somehow managed to keep up with posting and had more motivation to blog that year. I need to recapture that motivation. At one point I felt that I was going to reach 100 posts that year. Some year maybe. This year was almost my all-time low, but that was last year 2017 with a lowly 16 posts. This year is tied with 2010 at 18. The fourth year in a row for underachieving and tied at second worst out of six failing years. The yearly average is slowly getting worse and worse.

Happy New Year: 2018 to 2019

GOODBYE 2018 HELLO 2019

Yes it is the very end of the year post. If this post looks familiar it is because for the last several years I have tried to crank out an End of the Year New Years Eve post. The more recent ones I have cut and pasted the previous year's end of the year post, edited it for change of year, deleted a few things, added a few others and BAM you have the end of the year post. Just check out the last post of December or the first post of January for each year in the blog's archives to see how consistent I have or haven't been. These are not quite the same thing as my "year in review" posts. Those are more like the chintzy letters you get from estranged acquaintances and extended family each year. I haven't done one of those for ages.

In a few days in Jan 2019 I will make my annual "State of the Blog" post. 2018 is again one of those bare minimum one post maybe two per month. I have been nothing but consistent with this these last few years.

Blogging In Spurts And Drips

For me blogging has always come in spurts and drips mostly drips. Sometimes I have so much inspiration to get stuff recorded on pen and paper, er typed out into the Either nets. I make several posts and line them up in the scheduling queue. Other times it just slowly drips and I have to scramble at the end of the month to come up with some sort of post for my self appointed and regulated monthly posting quota minimum. Which is 20 posts short of my yearly quota.

At the end of April this year I had one of those posting spurts, at least on over at my regular trading card blog. That blog will have 2 posts for April and so far at least 3 posts for May. Here on this regular blog I once again only posted my minimum one post for the month drip. That post I started drafting in the early part of the month and was ready to post about 4 or 5 days before its posting date on 30 April 2018 which is today as I start to draft this post.

I have noticed that it is easier for me to post about my trading card hobby (or maybe it is an obsession) than it is to post general stuff here on this my regular blog. Part of it is I am more interested in writing about my hobby than I am random mundane things of life.

Of my three blogs my regular trading card blog "CaptKirk42's Trading Card blog" is the easiest to make posts for then my Washington Baseball "Curly W Cards" blog then this one the most difficult.

Doing regular features on a specific subject does help build the quota. I have had a few regular features on this blog: Fryday Fourtoon, Myka Monday, Year in Review (State of the Blog recaps), Warehouse 13 Wednesday, Book Review (was "Recent Read") I have also frequently mentioned times my name has been misspelled but it isn't a regular feature just a reoccurring subject.

Well now that I have that written down time to post this puppy. That is schedule this post for publishing Tomorrow to get in early for the May Posting.

State Of The Blog: 2017 Recap

STATE OF THE BLOG
2017 Edition

2017 Joins last year and the year before in the growing number of Republican Red years in my annual State of The Blog tally.

Here are the monthlies from 2017:

January: 1
February: 1
March: 1
April: 1
May: 1
June: 1
July: 3
August: 1
September: 1
October: 1
November: 2
December: 1

TOTAL: 16
Monthly Average: 1.33

Yet again this past year I FAILED my yearly goal of 32 posts per year. That is three years in a row.
Now lets look at how the 2017 blogging matches up with past years:

2006 - 32
2007 - 43
2008 - 36
2009 - 34
2010 - 18
2011 - 20
2012 - 38
2013 - 93
2014 - 57
2015 - 24
2016 - 29
2017 - 16
Yearly Average: 36.66

Sigh - The LOWEST year to date. I am barely keeping up with my bare bones minimum of one post per month. If the current trend keeps though even that will get more and more difficult to achieve.

Happy New Year 2017 to 2018

GOODBYE 2017 HELLO 2018

Over the years I have tried to be consistent with making a New Year's post. Preferably getting it tacked onto the blog in the late hours of 31 Dec not the wee new ones of 01 Jan. I seem to have been inconsistent with the post time. Sometimes not anywhere near the witching hour.

In a few days in Jan 2018 I will make my annual "State of the Blog" post. 2017 continues the barely getting a post per month trend I have had in the last few years. I think it is an all time low like the approval ratings for the President. My overall average is getting worse and worse.

While many people this year have been moaning and groaning about POTUS Trump I have been trying to keep a level head about things. Like with previous administrations I have tried to not let Donald Trump's stress me out. Way too many people are letting his words and actions get to them in upsetting ways. Yes some are deserved and warranted, but not everything is bad. Many are blinded by their hate for him. I am not a hater. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt at first. It was difficult and eventually became virtually impossible. I won't go any further down this political slippery slope.

So how about them Rams?
11-4

Just one more game to play, which will have been played by the time this post is published. This post was drafted a few days ago. The Redskins on the other hand. are currently just 7-8 a loss to the Giants would really stink I'm hoping a win so they will finish out the season even 8-8.

Mid Year State Of The Blog: July 2017

Mid-Year State Of The Blog: July 2017

Well it is the halfway mark of this year. Technically a bit past the midway point. With this being only the 10th post of the year I've made then I will be well less than half of my personal yearly quota by years end. 😢 I personally don't like when I'm this low. If my low trend continues this will be the third year in a row and the 5th year total that I've been below my yearly posting goal. My other personal goal with this blog is to try to at the very least make one post each month.

At least for this blog I have not missed a month. I did a quick check it looks like I've hit each month. Many many months I have had only one post that month the bare minimum. I don't want to accept going more than that without blogging. I feel terrible when I see the low numbers. I have never been so proficient that I would have multiple posts per day. Some people can write that much and do. If they miss just one day of posting they feel even worse than I do just missing one month. On my trading card blogs I have missed a month once or twice each. I have made a personal vow to never do that again. Sometimes the evening of the last day of the month I have had to tweak my posting time slightly if the blogger system has already crossed over to midnight.

Before this post is published I have two posts for this month here. On my Trading card blogs nothing in July yet. I have plenty of posts in draft on them, but for some reason or another I haven't published any. I will even if it is on the 31st at 11:50 pm and I have to fudge the time to 11:59 pm on the 31st instead of 12:03 am 01 Aug.

Maybe I should start showing sexy photos of scantily clad women on a regular basis to up the viewing numbers and to up the posting quota. I probably could, but I would soon bore of it. It doesn't say that "this is MY Blog". I also might be accused of stealing someone Else's material.

I forget the source of that "writer" image. I got it from one of those social media quizzes that show what job/career you should really be doing. There are times I would love to get paid as a writer. However, to quote Douglas Adams "I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by." I have never been good at meeting deadlines. I have perfected the art of procrastination. In school I used to wait, waiting isn't the right word but whatever, til the night before something was due sometimes before even starting the dang thing. Often with English classes if an essay, book report was supposed to be over 1,000 words or at least 10 pages I would often fail to get even that. My word count even using a ton of "and"s and "the"s along with many other filler words I would still only manage to get only about half of what the requirement was. If I had a professional writing gig I don't know how I would manage to get things in on time. Especially if I had a weekly or monthly deadline. Maybe if there was a loose deadline I might make some of those.
